With mediums ranging from photography, painting and encaustics to assemblage, altered art and fine craft you're sure to find an affordable workshop just for you. Each workshop is held in 12 12 Gallery's intimate gallery environment for participants at all skill levels. Workshop size ranges from 4 to 8 participants to nurture creativity and provide a supportive, unique learning experience for each participant.
Our hands-on workshops are facilitated by our resident artists and local artisans alike, who have expertise in their respective mediums and are passionate about passing on their knowledge and sharing skills with Richmond's creative community.
Encaustic Collage for Busy Artists

Encaustic Collage for Busy Artists is designed to provide you with a basic understanding
of using encaustic as a collage medium. This workshop will get you going with
demos and hands-on experience. You can choose to attend one day or both; whatever fits your schedule!
Day 1 will focus on the basics: safety, making your own encaustic medium and techniques used in encaustic collage. You will learn how to layer, fuse, and incorporate oil sticks, pastels and crayon in an encaustic collage you create using the collage materials provided.
Day 2 will incorporate everything from Day 1 with focused attention on incorporating your own images and objects into an encaustic collage plus embossing, surfacing, and finishing.
Returning people are welcome to join us with a current project or to create something new at a reduced rate.
Some of the materials needed for this workshop include:
At least 4 Supports/Substrates not larger than 9" x 12" or 12"x 12"
(canvas board or gessoed hardboard, art panels, clayboard (cradled or
uncradled)
1 or 2 inexpensive flat natural bristle brushes (2" inch width works well)
3 or 4 sponge brushes (1" inch size will work fine)
sharp scissors
exact-o knife & self-healing cutting mat (optional)
ruler or straight edge
craft /utility knife
pencil & pen
sketchbook for notes
We will provide materials for encaustic medium and equipment irons, mini slow cookers, heat guns, and collage materials.
Because of the nature of this workshop, a limit of 6 participants is strictly observed. If we are over class limit we will notify you immediately and you will be placed on a waiting list for the next workshop.
About the Artist:
Krishanna Spencer, an Artist-in-Residence at 12 12
Gallery, was raised in Los Angeles, California, and is a freelance
writer and Outsider artist who specializes in
altered art and found object assemblages. She has been working
professionally for nearly 10 years and focuses predominantly on working
with encaustic and found objects and altering almost anything she can
get her hands on. She lives in the Richmond area with her boyfriend in
