Richmond Virginia's 12 12 Gallery announces an open call to artists, including photographers, to submit entries for its third annual Manchester National Juried Fine Art Exhibition: Small Works 2009. Exhibition juror, Andrea Pollan, Director and Curator, Curator's Office, Washington, DC, will award over $1000 in cash prizes.
Eligibility
Artists age 18+, working in 2D and 3D with any medium, in the United States and Canada, may submit 3 digital images to be considered for the exhibition. Additional images may be submitted at additional cost for up to a total of 5 works. Work that has been previously exhibited at 12 12 Gallery is not eligible.
Entry Procedure
Entrants may submit DIGITAL IMAGES online or on CD. Only one image may be submitted for each 2D work. Up to three images to show dimension or perspective may be submitted for each 3D, where each set of 3 images, constitutes on entry for that specific piece. Diptychs or triptychs are counted as one work, but must be on one image. Size of artwork must be limited to presentation size maximum of 12" X 12".
Preparing Digital Files. Generate digital file of image at a resolution of 72 ppi, with the longest dimension being 800 pixels. Save the file in PC format at a quality level of 10-12, where the final image size is 1.5MB or less. Label each file with the last name, first initial, and the number corresponding to the entry number (e.g. SmithJ1). Please identify images on the entry form or online submission with the title of the work.
Mailed or Hand-Delivered Entries. CD, completed entry form, entry fee, and SASE (for return of CD and notification) must be post-marked by Friday, May 15, 2009 and sent to 12 12 Gallery, 12 East 12th Street, Richmond, Virginia, 23224.
Online Entries. In the body of an E-mail, include your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address. In this E-mail, please provide file title, work title, medium, framed work size, and sales price for each image you wish to submit. To this E-mail you will attach the images of the work that correspond to the information provided. Send E-mail to 1212galleryrichmond@gmail.com with MNJFAESW 2009 in the subject line, by 11:59 PM Friday, May 15, 2009.
Entry Fee and Payment. Each entrant is required to pay a non-refundable $25.00 (US) entry fee for 3 images. Additional images, at $5.00 (US) each, for up to 5 total images, may be submitted. Slides may by submitted for an extra $2.50 (US) for each image and the gallery will generate the digital image. Payment of entry fee will be accepted via PayPal, personal check, or money order mailed to the gallery by the postmark deadline.
Other Conditions. Entry forms may be photocopied. Incomplete entries or unlabeled slides will not be considered. Please note that images of accepted work may be retained for publicity purposes and will be returned after the exhibition closes. Entries will not be returned without SASE and adequate postage. Artists submitting work online will be notified of acceptance by E-mail. Artist statements, bios, and resumes may be requested upon acceptance to the exhibition.
Awards
Cash prizes over $1000 will be awarded solely at the discretion of the exhibition juror. Recognition of work by Ms. Pollan may also be designated to the extent she deems appropriate. These designations may not include a cash prize.
Sales
All work must be for sale. 12 12 Gallery will receive a 35% commission on the sale of any work.
Accepted Work
Accepted work will be received during regular gallery hours starting June 18, 2009 and must be ready to exhibit. 12 12 Gallery reserves the right not to exhibit work that it deems unsuitable for exhibition.
Liability and Agreement
Although extreme care will be taken with all entries and works of art, 12 12 Gallery cannot be responsible for entries and work in transit to or from the exhibition. Work will be covered at 100% of the designated value while in the gallery's possession. 12 12 Gallery is not responsible for unlabeled CDs. Signing the entry form denotes agreement to the terms and conditions as stated in the entry information. Permission to photograph accepted work for publicity purposes shall be understood to be granted unless specifically denied.
Juror
Andrea Pollan is the Director and Curator of the Curator's Office in Washington, DC. She has worked for over twenty years in the visual fine arts. Trained as an art historian at Yale University, she has organized over ninety exhibitions of contemporary art for museums and galleries regionally and nationally. She has written numerous catalogs and exhibition brochures. Pollan has juried scores of art exhibitions and art fairs in the region including an exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
She served as Exhibitions Director of the McLean Project for the Arts in Virginia and was curator at the Arlington Arts Center prior to that. She has worked for the Trust for Museum Exhibitions, the Yale University Art Gallery, and two regional commercial galleries.
Pollan received an Arts Administration Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1994. She has served on numerous boards and recently served on the board of the D.C. Chapter of ArtTable, a national association of women arts administrators.
